Duet is a tablet point of sale system developed by ASI that draws on the company’s 30 years of restaurant industry experience. I worked on design elements and concepts to create a user friendly and easy to use experience. The product is used by multiple levels of restaurant staff who have a variety of expectations and needs for the software.
The UI needed to be clean and simple due to the high volume and fast paced environment the software is used in. Blue from the product logo works to tie screens together while a strong use of white space helps the user to easily find their next action and smoothly flow from one screen to the next.
The initial beta release of the product included interviews and feedback with end users. Restaurant owners and management thought the product was very intuitive to use. Managers said they were able to train their staff in 30 minutes compared to two days with competiting products. Restaurant staff members were able to naturally complete their actions from screen to screen without referring to manuals or asking questions.
